County Cricketer of the Decade

A County Cricket Matters’ social Media plea for nominations of County Cricketer of The Decade early this year impressed me hugely in the relevance of those chosen. The nominations weren’t for ‘star’ players they were for real county stalwarts, players that have made a huge difference to their counties and who have impressed fans with their dedication. The results without numbers of votes are as follows (although I will reveal that Darren won by one vote): 1 Darren Stevens (Kent CCC) I contacted Darren and he told me the following: ‘It’s a huge honour to be even considered amongst some amazing players in the game for this accolade, I can’t thank the fans enough for the votes and support over the years, may it long continue’ He also went on to say that he loves this beautiful game so much and that he’s been a very lucky man over the past 24 years. 2 Marcus Trescothick (Somerset CCC) 3 James Hildreth (Somerset CCC) 4 Daryl Mitchell (Worcestershire CCC) 5 Tim Murtagh (Middlesex CCC) 6 Chris Rushworth (Durham CCC) 7 Jeetan Patel (Warwickshire CCC) 8 Wayne Madsen (Derbyshire CCC) 9 Ryan Tendoscate (Essex CCC) 10 Chris Read (Nottinghamshire CCC) Other nominations were as follows: Rikki Clarke, Ravi Bopara, Graham Onions, James Foster, Jack Brooks, Steven Patterson, Gary Ballance, Ryan Sidebottom, Alex Wakely, Lewis Gregory, Glen Chappell, Ben Brown, Will Gidman, Chris Dent, Joe Denley, Morne Morkel, Adam Lyth, Rob Key, John Simpson, Steven Croft, James Vince, David Masters, Tim Bresnan, Luke Wright, Paul Collingwood, Kyle Abbot, Jimmy Adams, Andrew Strauss, Mark Stoneman, Gareth Batty, Toby Roland Jones, Andrew Gale, Adil Rashid, Ollie Rayner, Mark Wood, Chris Nash. Thanks to everyone who voted.
